Maine is legendary throughout the United States for the quality of its bass fishing. Both smallmouth and bigmouth variants are abundant in Maine's lakes and rivers, but that's just scratching the surface of a rich marine ecosystem that includes a variety of perch, salmon, and trout species as well.
Maine's thousands of miles of rivers and streams and hundreds of freshwater lakes are still thriving today. Fishers can chase brook trout, rainbow trout, brown trout, lake trout, landlocked salmon, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, pike and musky.
Maine is home to five native charr and salmon: Brook trout, lake trout, Arctic charr, landlocked salmon, and Atlantic salmon. Numerous other native fish can be found in Maine as well, including cusk, lake whitefish, smelt, alewife, shad, striped bass, sturgeon, and American eel.
